Breakthrough in Haemophilia treatment

Doctors are hailing a major breakthrough in gene therapy that could revolutionise treatment of the blood clotting disorder Haemophilia. Sufferers currently have to take an ongoing series of injections to control the condition. A study at University College London hopes to change all that. Al Jazeera’s Gerald Tan has been taking a look at the findings.

    @call2allah I noticed that too. One way around that is to press comments on videos like this one; then maybe they will catch on. Like this: Best cure for hemophilia is to sterilize royalty.

    @Demarcoa u a right.its one time treatment. Pts used to be getting that factor 9 from blood, thats why its so expensive. on top of being reccurent and invasive. now its once in the lifetime given as a vaccine. thats crazy. the treatm.will be out in 5 to 10 y. Thank you for u help. its much appreciated :)

    @antoshahorosha oops. Yes, we are in perfect agreement. I thought you were saying the opposite – that youtube commentors have the freedom to troll on any video they see fit – misunderstanding what you meant by “their”. So I thought to myself that makes no sense, and hence my “No, and here’s why comment…” which I was essentially just angrily agreeing with you, hahahah. If that didn’t make any sense here’s the short of it: my bad…

    @Demarcoa So we’re on the same boat…

  5. Demarcoa says:

    @dharmaatdawn good question. I’m not sure about this treatment specifically, but after the initial course of treatments I don’t see why they would need transfusions or recurring treatment. The cause of this disease – a faulty gene – would be gone. This makes this treatment also a massive cost saver – talked about in el video. But I’m no expert – this is just my opinion based on the contents of this video and my knowledge of genetics and it’s effect on biopsychology

    @antoshahorosha no it isn’t. It is al jazeera’s intellectual property. They can do whatever they damn like with it. I can’t think of any medium that allows for public feedback that does not provide some sort of filter. Companies are extremely selective of feedback they publish, peer review is only allowed by qualified individuals, and public forums have security in some form or some means to control the amount of time people can speak.

    @rampage241 yes, I find this decision about Al Jazeera was a good idea for certain topics. If people want to share their trollish opinions over controversial events they can upload their own damn videos.

  10. dharmaatdawn says:

    @call2allah why? isnt there enough already inentellegent and racist comments on you tube?

  11. antoshahorosha says:

    It’s their right if they want comments or not.

  12. ZeeGooner says:

    @rampage241 or the truth.

  13. ImmortalGrandPriX says:

    interesting, aljazeera has been getting a lot of hate. haha. but at least many of your comments are surprisingly insightful! but i do understand why sometimes they block commenting, cause it really does get out of hand. i avoided the comment sections for the longest time, but not anymore :)

  14. dharmaatdawn says:

    @rampage241 unfort. this is a standard for u tube comments. wonder age demogr. for u tube users

    you mean it’s common among people who are inbred?
    meaning almost every royal family in the world?
    not just europe.

  16. dharmaatdawn says:

    very cool! IS IT ONE TREATMENT? From what i understand pts need the blood transfusion not often. only in cases of surgery. But the gene therapy is indeed exciting

  17. The88Nomad says:

    @Twinpact IDIOT! ….20 million is the amount a person, ends up spending MONEY on donated blood, in their LIFE-TIME!
    The injection ONLY costs THIRTY THOUSAND!!!

    @reprimand33 Muslims? I hope u know Islam was/is encouraging it’s followers to use their brains and knowledge to thrive into their respective chosen fields of study.

    Look at Islam’s contribution to science/math/sociology/medicine etc etc. The whole of Europe was in the dark ages while Islam was thriving on knowledge….

    it is only after the European renaissance that Europe applied practical “Islamic” knowledge.

    why did renaissance start in southern European countries towards the middle east?

  19. The88Nomad says:
